ROXANNE

GROBBEL

JD, LCSW, RPT-S

Licensed Psychotherapist & Instructor

Roxanne Grobbel, JD, LCSW, RPT-S is a licensed attorney in Florida and Michigan and practiced law before returning to school to follow her dream of becoming a psychotherapist. She received her masters degree in social work from Florida Atlantic University and became a licensed clinical social worker. With over 14 years experience she has been a passionate advocate for the mental health and wellness of at-risk and traumatized individuals.  She has trained hundreds of mental health professionals throughout Florida and Nationally.

Roxanne was awarded the 2016 Social Work Educator of the Year Award from NASW Florida.  She was recognized as an outstanding Florida Play Therapist and received the Viola Brody Award from FAPT in 2016.   She is an Approved EMDR Consultant (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Certified EMDR therapist with over 13 years experience. As an Approved Provider of continuing education from EMDRIA, Roxanne teaches EMDR workshops for therapists. She has extensive training in EMDR including the treatment of children, addiction, and chronic pain.  She has 17 years experience as a play therapist and has reached the level of Registered Play Therapy Supervisor.

Roxanne has years of experience as a clinician, supervisor and Clinical Director. She served as Clinical Director for All ‘Bout Children, Inc. and the Center for Child Counseling and as Executive Director of Kids First, Inc.  As such, she designed award winning curriculum, workshops and instructional materials to train professionals in providing effective therapies and developed therapeutic programs in at-risk preschools as well as successfully wrote numerous grants.

Roxanne's passion is training others in EMDR.  She finds immense satisfaction by training others to better help their clients heal.  She brings her enthusiasm and experience to the class to better prepare therapists in their work with trauma. She has conducted numerous workshops on Trauma, EMDR, Play Therapy, Infant Mental Health, as well as a preparation course and study guide for therapists taking the Clinical Social Work Exam.  She developed a comprehensive 72-hour Play Therapy course - which includes modules on Trauma, Infant Mental Health, Brain Development and Play Therapy Techniques.  Roxanne has trained thousands of mental health professionals while conducting workshops at local, state, and national levels. As a State of Florida Qualified Supervisor she has supervised and trained masters level interns and LCSW registered interns.  She has been an instructor at FAU School of Social Work and Palm Beach State College and presented at Nova Southeastern University.

As an EMDR therapist, she has successfully used EMDR to treat both adults and children who have experienced trauma, and chronic stress. EMDR is a powerful therapeutic method that accelerates the treatment of a wide range of clinical issues.   People often need help to restore their level of well-being or ability to function successfully.  Roxanne does this by offering a safe nonjudgmental environment combining various types of therapies designed to meet the specific needs of the client. She also works as a consultant for therapists seeking to become certified in EMDR. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida and Colorado.

She is excited for her latest chapter, Treating Trauma in Young Children: Integrating EMDR, Child-Centered Play, and Developmental Play which will be published later this year.

She co-authored the chapter by Grobbel, R., Cooke, K., Bonet, N. (2017). Ethical use of touch and nurturing-restraint in play therapy with aggressive young children, as illustrated through a reflective supervision session. In J. A. Courtney & R. D. Nolan (Eds.), Touch in Child Counseling and Play Therapy: An Ethical and Clinical Guide. New York, New York: Routledge,

As well as, “Play Therapy Techniques with Very Young At-Risk Children in Child Care Settings” in "Play Therapy for Young Children", edited by Charles Schaefer and published in 2008.
